March 8th marks International Women’s Day. Celebrate the wonder women in your life with these 5.1 activities that span across entrepreneurship, technology and more.

Women’s Day, also known as the International Day of Women’s Rights and International Peace in the U.N, can be traced back to 1909. At the time, the day was organized by the Socialist Party of America to honor women who fought for better working conditions. The holiday passed through many iterations until 1975, when the United Nations declared it an international day of observance.

International Women’s Day is a time to recognize women across the board for their achievements. Whether you plan on celebrating yourself or the Wonder Women in your life, here are 5.1 ways for marking this historic day.

1. Register for an Empowering Conference

Today there are literally hundreds of empowering women’s conferences happening around the world. These conferences vary from technology and entrepreneurship to communication and leadership.

Check out Bizzabo’s directory of Women in Technology Conferences. Don’t let the name fool you. Regardless of whether you consider yourself a “woman of technology” or not, you’re bound to find something that speaks to your heart.

2. Learn About an Event That Is Making a Difference

To take a closer look at the types of conferences are happening across the world, check out the story of Resonation.

Resonation is a conference dedicated to women’s empowerment in Indonesia. In 2017, the conference had hundreds of attendees and attracted some impressive speakers, including an executive from Facebook and Sophia Amoruso of GirlBoss fame.

3. Get Inspired by Reading a Righteously Powerful Manifesto

Knowledge is power. There is no shortage of awesome books written by strong female characters for women(and for men who are interested in seeing things from a lady’s perspective). Obviously, one of the greats is Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean-In (given out to every Bizzabo employee this year). But that’s certainly not the only manifesto worth reading.

Check out Tina Fey’s Bossy Pants, Amy Poehler’s Yes Please or one of these 21 other books.

4. Listen to an Inspiring Speaker

There’s really no better way to get in touch with the protest-steeped roots of International Women’s Day than by going out and listening to a live speaker in the flesh.

This year at Bizzabo NYC, we’re inviting Leah Bonvissuto to the Bizzabo office to speak about leadership and professional development. Meanwhile, the Tel Aviv office invited a seasoned speaker with years of working in a non-profit.

If you’re interested in bringing an inspiring speaker to your office, we recommend checking out Speakizi.

5. Raise Up Women in Technology

Women represent 51% of the world’s population, but when it comes to technology, the numbers are drastically different. There are a number of ways to make the tech world more fair and accessible for women. One way to do so is through Let’s Get to 51.

Let’s Get to 51 has connected over 100 female entrepreneurs with leading professionals in the high-tech and start-up community. While the initiative was started in Israel by Bizzabo Co-founder Boaz Katz, it also extends to some parts of the US and will soon also appear in the UK.

5.1. Raise Up Women in General

This goes without saying, but support for women shouldn’t be limited to “insert industry here”.

Let’s raise a toast to the woman to your left and the woman to your right, to the woman that inspired you to be better, to reach for the stars, to fight on and climb that mountain step by step. Celebrate what makes you unique, fight for what is right and inspire others by example.

Cheers to you and everything you mean to the world!
