Event and venue entrepreneur Andrew Morris has been appointed chairman of the Event Academy, the UK’s largest event management training provider.

The CIM accredited Event Academy has also announced the appointment of a new CEO, Rupert Fitzmaurice, the original founder of The Event Academy in 2011.

Morris (pictured) previously led The Business Design Centre, the NEC Birmingham and Earls Court & Olympia, as well as serving as a director at Upper Street Events, Clarion and Brand Events.

Fitzmaurice has a 20-year career in leadership within global event agencies Fathom, Ivory and Involve. He was also country lead of global adventures business, Operation Raleigh

The Event Academy is partnering with leading UK event organisers and venues including Clarion, Jack Morton, The Department, The Brewery and Excel.

Morris comments: “I’m delighted to have joined a passionate team dedicated to improving the training and talent in the industry. Fresh new people, from all over the world, are the key to growth in the events sector and that’s our core purpose.”

The Academy says that with nearly 750 students graduating every year and with 89% of the postgraduates gaining full-time work in the events industry following their course, the ambition is to become the ‘Harvard of Event Training’.
